Canberra, September 11 (Daily Kiran) : Indian Navy Chief Admiral Krishna Swaminathan met with Australian Chief of Defence Force Admiral Mark Hammond in Canberra to discuss strengthening defense and maritime cooperation between the two nations.
The discussions focused on deepening the India-Australia defense partnership, particularly in implementing a roadmap for maritime security cooperation. Both leaders emphasized the need to enhance collaboration between their navies in the Indo-Pacific region.
During the meeting, they explored opportunities to improve coordination and joint operational capabilities in maritime domains. Both parties stressed the importance of translating their strategic understanding into tangible outcomes rather than limiting it to dialogue.
India and Australia are committed to fostering a secure, stable, and prosperous environment in the Indo-Pacific. Strengthening naval ties is crucial for ensuring maritime security in this context.

Upon his arrival in Canberra, Admiral Swaminathan received a traditional welcome featuring a special smoking ceremony that reflects Australia’s Indigenous heritage. Following this, he was honored with a Guard of Honour in the capital.
Admiral Swaminathan is on an official visit to Australia, having previously met with Australian Fleet Commander Rear Admiral Anita Williams in Sydney. Their discussions included operational cooperation between the two navies, focusing on opportunities for strengthening mutual coordination. Admiral Swaminathan also visited the Australian naval base HMAS Kuttabul in Sydney.
