Pakistan Announces T20 Squad for Australia Series with Babar and Shaheen’s Return

Pakistan and Australia are set to face off in a three-match T20 series scheduled from 29 January to 1 February. The Pakistan team will be led by all-rounder Salman Ali Agha, who will captain the side ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

After missing the three-match series against Sri Lanka earlier this month, former captain Babar Azam and pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi make their return to the T20 squad. Babar Azam struggled to find form in the ongoing Big Bash League (BBL), scoring only 202 runs in 11 matches. He has now left his BBL franchise ahead of the playoffs to join the national team.

Strong Batting Lineup and Notable Omissions

The batting lineup for Pakistan looks solid against Australia, featuring in-form players like Fakhar Zaman, Saif Ayub, and Sahibzada Farhan. However, wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Rizwan has been surprisingly left out of the squad.

Bowling Attack and Spin Options

Shadab Khan has been included in the squad and will join Abrar Ahmed, Mohammad Nawaz, and Usman Tariq to form a strong spin bowling unit. The pace attack will be led by Shaheen Shah Afridi, Naseem Shah, and Mohammad Wasim Jr. Notably, leading T20 bowler Haris Rauf, who took 20 wickets in 11 recent BBL matches, is absent from the team.

Upcoming World Cup and Series Details

Pakistan will begin their T20 World Cup campaign on 7 February against the Netherlands. All group stage matches will be played in Colombo. The upcoming series against Australia will serve as an important preparation for the global tournament.
