Jos Buttler Makes IPL History with Record Sixes in Gujarat Titans Match

New Delhi, April 8: Jos Buttler, the Gujarat Titans (GT) batsman, has etched his name in Indian Premier League (IPL) history. He became the player with the most sixes in the first six overs of an innings, hitting five sixes during the match.

Buttler surpassed Wriddhiman Saha, who had previously set the record with four sixes against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in 2023.

In the IPL, Buttler’s five sixes are the second-most hit by a non-opener in the first six overs. He trails only Suresh Raina, who hit five sixes against the Punjab Kings in the 2014 Qualifier 2.

Buttler launched his first six off Mukesh Kumar in the third over. He followed this with another six against Axar Patel in the next over. In the fifth over, Buttler targeted Mukesh Kumar again, hitting three sixes in that over.

By the end of the powerplay, Gujarat Titans scored 68 runs for the loss of one wicket, marking their third-highest score in the first six overs in IPL history. The top score was set in 2025 at Ahmedabad, where GT scored 82 runs without losing a wicket against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). In 2023, they scored 78 runs without losing a wicket against LSG.

In this match at Arun Jaitley Stadium, Gujarat Titans batted first after losing the toss. They lost their first wicket early, with Sai Sudharsan dismissed for 12 runs in just 2.1 overs. Buttler then partnered with captain Shubman Gill to add 60 runs for the second wicket off 32 balls. Buttler scored 52 runs off 27 balls, including five sixes and three fours.

Under the captaincy of Shubman Gill, the Gujarat Titans lineup included Sai Sudharsan, Jos Buttler (wicketkeeper), Washington Sundar, Glenn Phillips, Shahrukh Khan, Rahul Tewatia, Rashid Khan, Kagiso Rabada, Mohammed Siraj, and Ashok Sharma.

Meanwhile, the Delhi Capitals, led by Axar Patel, featured KL Rahul (wicketkeeper), Pathum Nissanka, Nitish Rana, Vipraj Nigam, David Miller, Tristan Stubbs, Kuldeep Yadav, Lungi Ngidi, T Natarajan, and Mukesh Kumar in this match.
