Dehradun, April 9: Preparations are underway for a grand event marking the inauguration of the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit the Maa Dat Kali Temple for prayers on April 14, prior to the expressway’s opening.
The temple management has begun preparations for the Prime Minister’s arrival, including special rituals in the sanctum sanctorum.
Mahant Sanyam Goswami expressed his joy regarding PM Modi’s visit, stating, “It is a matter of great happiness that for the first time, PM Modi will be visiting our temple. Preparations are being made accordingly. He will have limited time, so the rituals have been planned accordingly. He will first perform prayers in the sanctum, then circumambulate the temple, and finally meet with family members before heading to the inauguration. He will only have about 10-15 minutes.”
Discussing the temple’s history, the Mahant explained that the origins of Maa Dat Kali Temple are linked to the construction of roads. In 1804, when the British were building the route from Delhi to Dehradun, their engineers faced repeated collapses while constructing a cave. An Indian engineer reportedly had a vision of the goddess, who instructed him to retrieve and establish the idol from the debris. This led to the establishment of the temple.
He further mentioned that Minister Nitin Gadkari has approved a proposal for a U-turn near the temple, with work expected to commence soon. The Mahant expressed heartfelt gratitude to PM Modi and Nitin Gadkari, wishing success for the Delhi-Dehradun road project.
It is noteworthy that Maa Dat Kali Temple is renowned for ensuring vehicle safety. Many people come to the temple to pray for their new vehicles, believing that the goddess’s blessings keep both the vehicle and its driver safe.
