Riyadh, September 8 (Daily Kiran) : The Saudi-led military coalition, supporting Yemen’s internationally recognized government, has condemned recent Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia as “dangerously escalating tensions.” In a statement shared on the social media platform X, coalition spokesman Turki al-Maliki highlighted the increasing military activities of the Houthi group, which he described as aggressive and irresponsible.
Al-Maliki noted that recent assaults targeted key civilian and economic sites in the cities of Abha, Khamis Mushait, Jazan, and Najran, resulting in injuries to 73 civilians, including women and children. He asserted that these attacks violate Saudi Arabia’s sovereignty and pose a direct threat to the safety of its citizens and residents.
The coalition’s joint military command is prepared to take necessary actions to counter the Houthi threat and respond to these provocations. Meanwhile, the Houthi group claimed responsibility for multiple strikes on various sites in Saudi Arabia. According to Houthi-operated media outlet Ansarullah, these strikes included the Abha International Airport, King Khalid Air Base, and facilities belonging to the state oil company Aramco in Abha and Jazan.
On the previous day, the Houthis accused Saudi Arabia of launching airstrikes and cruise missile attacks on several provinces in war-torn Yemen. Fighting between government forces and Houthi fighters has intensified across multiple fronts. Houthi-affiliated Al-Masirah TV reported that Saudi forces targeted Al-Jawf, Al-Bayda, Marib, and Taiz provinces with numerous airstrikes and cruise missiles, although there was no information on casualties or damage.
Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree claimed that the group downed a Saudi CH-4 surveillance drone over the northern Al-Jawf province on Monday.
