Om Semwal Triumphs Over Hugo Jean in PSA Challenger Tour Squash in Mumbai

Mumbai, June 30: In an exciting opening round of the PSA Challenger Tour in Mumbai, India’s Om Semwal defeated Spain’s Hugo Jean with a score of 15-13, 8-11, 11-6, 8-11, 11-9. The match, held at the Juhu Vile Parle Gymkhana Club, lasted for 69 minutes.

Indian fans are eagerly watching top singles stars Velavan Senthilkumar and Tanvi Khanna, both ranked third in the country. Velavan Senthilkumar will lead the Indian challenge among players from 15 countries in this tournament, which concludes on July 3.

The tournament features separate PSA Challenger events for men and women, with each event offering a prize pool of $15,000 and crucial ranking points. Intense competition is expected throughout all five days of the tournament.

In the men’s draw of 24 players, Hong Kong’s Alex Lau and South Africa’s Hayley Ward received top seeding. Velavan Senthilkumar, ranked 50th, is the second seed in the men’s category, while Tanvi Khanna, ranked 75th, is the third seed following Egypt’s Farida Walid. Among the seeded male players, another Indian, Suraj Kumar Chand, is seeded seventh in the top eight.
