Lucknow, August 8: Om Prakash Rajbhar, the president of the Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party (SBSP) and a minister in the Uttar Pradesh government, has called for the renaming of the Swaroop Rani Nehru Hospital in Prayagraj to honor the martyr Thakur Roshan Singh.
Rajbhar stated that while he has no objection to the current name, it is essential to recognize Thakur Roshan Singh’s contributions and sacrifices. He emphasized that August 9 marks the 100th anniversary of the Kakori Action, making it an appropriate time to rename the hospital, currently known as Swaroop Rani Hospital, to Thakur Roshan Singh’s name.
He remarked that this is the right moment to correct past historical oversights. According to Rajbhar, Thakur Roshan Singh faced the gallows with a smile for the sake of India’s freedom, and his sacrifice deserves proper acknowledgment.
The SBSP president noted, “There are over 40 institutions in Prayagraj named after the Nehru family, so there should be no issue regarding respect and honor.” He expressed hope that Akhilesh Yadav, the national president of the Samajwadi Party, would also support his proposal.
Rajbhar pointed out that it took nearly a thousand years to honor Maharaja Suheldev Rajbhar, while foreign invader Salar Masood Ghazi was worshipped in this country during that time. He plans to meet Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to discuss this matter further.
He concluded by stating that the hospital should be named after a great personality who willingly faced execution for the nation. However, he clarified his respect for Swaroop Rani, saying, “Swaroop Rani’s honor has always been in our hearts. She was the wife of the late Motilal Nehru and the mother of the first Prime Minister of India. Her significant contributions to India will always be remembered.”
