Karnal, June 9: Nurses at the District Civil Hospital in Karnal staged a two-hour strike on Tuesday, demanding the dismissal of Renu Bhatia, the Chairperson of the Haryana Women’s Commission. The striking nurses also called for strict action against a doctor accused of misconduct involving a minor.
Recently, a serious incident occurred at the LNGP Government Hospital in Kurukshetra, where a doctor was accused of inappropriate behavior with a young girl. The police have since arrested the accused doctor. Following the incident, Renu Bhatia visited the hospital and reprimanded the nurses present, questioning why they were not at the scene during the incident and why the girl was left alone with the doctor. This has escalated tensions in Haryana, prompting the nurses in Karnal to hold their strike.
Bharti, a staff nurse at Karnal Civil Hospital, stated, “Today we only held a two-hour strike. If the government does not take our demands seriously and address our concerns, we will escalate our protest.” She emphasized that the commission’s chairperson has made baseless accusations against them, labeling them as culprits without any investigation.
The Chairperson of the Women’s Commission accused the nurses of allowing the misconduct to occur and implied their complicity with the doctor. “How can we be blamed when nothing has been proven?” Bharti questioned.
Urmila, another nurse, added, “We will not tolerate this. Today was just a two-hour strike, but if Renu Bhatia is not dismissed, we may extend our protest. We will discuss our next steps with the Haryana organization.”
Tensions continue to rise as the situation develops.
