New Delhi, September 12 (Daily Kiran) : Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed leaders from BRICS nations on Saturday at the 18th BRICS Summit held at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. India is serving as the chair of BRICS for 2026, hosting this two-day summit.
Kiren Rijiju, the Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, expressed pride in India’s role as host of the 2026 BRICS Summit on the social media platform X. He mentioned his participation in a dinner organized by the Prime Minister in honor of foreign guests, alongside his cabinet colleagues and various state chief ministers.
Among the attendees were Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda, Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who traveled together to the dinner.
During the summit, Prime Minister Modi warmly welcomed global leaders, including Russian President Vladimir Putin, Chinese President Xi Jinping, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, and Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Khalid bin Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the theme of India’s BRICS presidency is “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation, and Sustainability,” reflecting Modi’s “Humanity First” vision.
The BRICS group includes Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, along with Egypt, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates as members. Partner countries include Belarus, Cuba, Bolivia, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Nigeria, Thailand, Uganda, Uzbekistan, and Vietnam.
India, a founding member of BRICS, has previously held the presidency in 2012, 2016, and 2021. The country assumed the chair for the fourth time on January 1, 2026, marking the 20th anniversary of BRICS’ establishment.
