Patna, March 7: Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai made it clear on Saturday that there are no plans by the central government to merge certain districts from Bihar and West Bengal into a Union Territory. He stated that such claims are unfounded.
Rai responded to a post by Purnea MP Rajesh Ranjan, also known as Pappu Yadav, on social media, asserting that Yadav is spreading misinformation to mislead the public. He emphasized that Yadav’s statements are entirely baseless.
The Union Minister urged the public not to take Pappu Yadav’s remarks seriously. He appealed to citizens to ignore any rumors. Rai labeled Yadav’s social media post as misleading and asserted that there is no credibility to his claims. He stated unequivocally, “There are no plans to create a Union Territory from certain districts of Bihar and West Bengal.”
In fact, Pappu Yadav had posted on the social networking site X on Friday, alleging that the BJP intends to impose President’s Rule in West Bengal and pass a proposal in the Bihar Assembly to create a Union Territory comprising districts like Seemanchal, Malda, Murshidabad, Raiganj, and Dinajpur. He claimed this was part of a strategy to remove Nitish Kumar and appoint a retired lieutenant general as the governor.
Following Yadav’s post, various speculations emerged in Bihar regarding the matter.
