Patna, August 1 (HS): Chief Minister Nitish Kumar appears to be in full election mode. On Friday, he announced a 100% increase in the honorarium for cooks working under the Mid-Day Meal scheme, raising it from ₹1,650 to ₹3,300.

Through a post on his X handle, the Chief Minister stated that cooks, night watchmen, and physical education & health instructors have played a vital role in strengthening the education system. Taking this into consideration, a respectable hike in their honorarium has been decided.
He said that the honorarium of cooks working under the Mid-Day Meal scheme in the education department will now be ₹3,300, up from ₹1,650. Similarly, the honorarium for night watchmen working in secondary and higher secondary schools has been doubled from ₹5,000 to ₹10,000. In addition, the honorarium for physical education and health instructors has been raised from ₹8,000 to ₹16,000. Their annual increment has also been revised from ₹200 to ₹400.
