New Delhi, July 23: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested two individuals during a raid in the Koderma district of Jharkhand on Thursday. This operation led to the seizure of detonators and other incriminating materials.
The arrests of Mahesh Mehta and Shankar Yadav were made in connection with a motorcycle blast that occurred in the Saltora area in 2024. The NIA teams conducted searches at four locations, uncovering their active involvement in a criminal conspiracy to illegally possess and transport explosives, posing a threat to public safety.
Previously, three other suspects had been arrested, and a chargesheet was filed in this case, which the NIA registered in October 2024.
During the recent raid, authorities confiscated a total of 1,662 illegally stored non-electric detonators, five digital devices, and cash amounting to 1.6 million rupees.
This investigation was triggered by an explosion that resulted in the death of a suspect, Joydeb Mandal, also known as Bablu Mandal, during the illegal transportation of explosives. The NIA uncovered a criminal conspiracy related to the possession and transportation of explosives acquired without valid licenses.
Additionally, the anti-terror agency identified a covert network involved in the storage and transportation of these explosives, which were being handled in a dangerous and improper manner. The NIA continues its investigation to trace the source of these explosives and their intended destinations.
