Guwahati, September 29 (Daily Kiran) : The National Investigation Agency (NIA) executed a significant operation on Tuesday in the Azad Nagar area of Barpeta Road, Assam. Mustafa Rahman was taken into custody as part of an investigation into suspected jihadi activities. The NIA team arrived at Rahman’s residence to conduct a search, during which they seized his mobile phone.
This operation comes nearly two months after Rahman’s release from Guwahati Central Jail. He had been detained by the Assam Police’s Special Task Force (STF) prior to his release. Rahman was originally arrested on March 14 in connection with an inquiry into his alleged involvement in jihadi activities, at which time the STF also confiscated electronic devices and other materials from his home.
Following his lengthy detention in Guwahati Central Jail, Rahman was granted bail. However, the recent NIA operation has placed him back under scrutiny as the agency continues its investigation into his activities.
Details regarding the specific allegations being investigated by the NIA have not been disclosed yet. Sources indicate that the agency’s officials examined items found during the search of Rahman’s home, and further information about any additional materials seized is awaited.
According to family members, Rahman operates a clothing store across from the Barpeta Road Jama Masjid. His detention and the subsequent search have drawn attention from local residents in the Azad Nagar area.
