Uttar Pradesh Transforms Identity from Katta Industry to Modern Defense Production, Says Giriraj Singh

Greater Noida, September 29 (Daily Kiran) : Greater Noida hosted a significant discussion on the evolving identity of Uttar Pradesh, as Union Minister Giriraj Singh stated that the state is no longer defined by its past association with the ‘katta industry’ (illegal firearms) but is now recognized for its advancements in defense production, including BrahMos missiles and fighter jets.

Speaking at the closing ceremony of the Uttar Pradesh International Trade Show 2026, Singh emphasized that improved law and order, expressways, air connectivity, and industrial infrastructure have opened new avenues for business and investment in the state. He remarked that the youth of India represent the nation’s greatest strength, with Uttar Pradesh serving as a vital hub for this potential.

Singh noted that the state’s industrial capabilities have expanded beyond traditional sectors, rapidly developing in defense production, modern manufacturing, exports, and technology. He asserted that a stronger Uttar Pradesh would contribute to a robust national economy.

The minister highlighted the importance of infrastructure, mentioning the ongoing development of the Noida International Airport in Jewar, which is set to enhance connectivity and facilitate business activities. Improved facilities are critical for creating a favorable environment for industries and investments.

He also referenced the ‘One District, One Product’ (ODOP) initiative aimed at connecting unique local products and artisans with larger markets. Singh pointed out the distinct identities of products such as Banaras sarees, Muradabad brass, Bhadohi carpets, and Lucknow chikankari. He emphasized the need for modern technology, better packaging, branding, and global market integration for these products. Events like the UP International Trade Show provide local businesses with a platform to showcase their potential to buyers worldwide.

During the event, Singh highlighted the successful B2B meetings and business activities that allowed Uttar Pradesh’s entrepreneurs, exporters, artisans, and exhibitors to connect directly with buyers from across the globe. He noted that such gatherings play a crucial role in bringing state products to the international market. Singh also mentioned the goal of elevating Uttar Pradesh’s economy to a trillion-dollar status, with exports, manufacturing, and the MSME sector being pivotal to this ambition.

Addressing energy concerns, Singh advocated for promoting alternative fuels, including ethanol, to reduce dependence on energy imports. He stressed the importance of expanding indigenous and alternative energy sources to meet the country’s growing energy demands and minimize import costs, which would be a significant step toward self-reliance.

After the ceremony, Singh responded to political issues, criticizing Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and the opposition alliance, which he labeled as a ‘thugbandhan.’ He accused the opposition of trying to create confusion among the public regarding electoral processes and issues like the Special Intensive Revision (SIR). Singh reassured that there is a clear procedure for individuals whose names were omitted from the voter list to have them added.

He also targeted Gandhi regarding seat-sharing politics and urged the youth to focus on development and employment issues. Singh questioned the opposition’s role during the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly regarding vaccine skepticism, claiming that some leaders spread confusion while getting vaccinated themselves.

He concluded by congratulating the organizers, officials, and participants of the UP International Trade Show 2026 for its success, which showcased the state’s industrial capabilities, handicrafts, entrepreneurship, and local products on a global platform. The ceremony was attended by various officials, including MSME Minister Bhupendra Chaudhary and Agriculture Minister Surya Pratap Shahi.
