Congress Raises Concerns Over Election Commissions Integrity in CWC Meeting

New Delhi, September 29 (Daily Kiran) : Congress leaders in New Delhi have expressed serious concerns regarding the integrity of the Election Commission. During a recent Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting, Mukul Wasnik revealed that the issue of resignations from the Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and the SIR was brought to light by Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha.

Wasnik stated that Gandhi has consistently criticized the way elections are being conducted, arguing that it undermines democratic traditions. He highlighted allegations of tampering with Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) across various states, including Karnataka, Maharashtra, Haryana, Bihar, West Bengal, and Assam. Gandhi has persistently raised these issues, calling for accountability.

Sukhdev Bhagat, another Congress MP, noted that Gandhi’s concerns are increasingly being validated. He emphasized that the problems extend beyond individual grievances and reflect the deteriorating functioning of the constitutional body, the Election Commission. He pointed out that both Gyanesh Kumar and his predecessor, Rajiv Kumar, have contributed to the commission’s declining reputation, likening the situation to a systemic decay.

Kumari Selja, a Congress MP, confirmed that the meeting addressed the SIR and other pressing issues, including the current state of the nation. Nasir Hussain, another party member, stated that the meeting focused specifically on the SIR and the Chief Election Commission (CEC) issues. He affirmed that the party’s longstanding demands remain unchanged, and they are prepared to mobilize and protest, insisting on Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation.

Deepender Singh Hooda further accused the BJP and the Election Commission of collaborating to undermine electoral integrity. He claimed that the recent Haryana Assembly elections were marred by public sentiment suppression. Hooda called for stringent legal action against Gyanesh Kumar, describing him as a puppet of the BJP, and demanded the dissolution of the current Haryana government, alleging electoral fraud, followed by new elections in the state.
