Medininagar, September 9 (Daily Kiran) : A newlywed woman, Vaishnavi Devi, was discovered dead under suspicious circumstances in Medininagar, located in the Palamu district of Jharkhand. Her body was found hanging in her in-laws’ home late Tuesday night.
Family members from Vaishnavi’s side claim that her in-laws murdered her and attempted to disguise it as suicide. Vaishnavi, originally from Sonbhadra district in Uttar Pradesh, had married Suraj Gupta from Medininagar approximately ten months ago. According to her family, she faced harassment for additional dowry demands shortly after the wedding.
The incident came to light on Wednesday when Vaishnavi’s in-laws brought her to Medini Rai Medical College and Hospital (MMCH) in critical condition, where she was pronounced dead by doctors.
Reports indicate that after her death was confirmed, her in-laws tried to discreetly remove her body from the hospital. However, vigilant police officers at the MMCH intervened, preventing them from leaving and subsequently informing Vaishnavi’s family.
Relatives from her hometown in Sonbhadra arrived in Medininagar on Wednesday and lodged serious allegations against her in-laws for murder. Vaishnavi’s uncle, Jitendra, stated that she had been subjected to ongoing abuse for dowry since her marriage.
He noted that just hours before her death, Vaishnavi had spoken with her mother over the phone, during which she did not mention any distress. This raises significant doubts about the circumstances surrounding her death.
Given the serious nature of the allegations, police have taken possession of the body for an autopsy and are conducting a thorough investigation based on the family’s statements and claims.
