Motihari, September 10 (Daily Kiran) : In Motihari, Bihar, police have successfully dismantled an inter-district robbery gang, apprehending four individuals linked to a series of thefts. Authorities seized approximately ₹15.5 lakh in cash, firearms, live ammunition, over two kilograms of a substance resembling charas, silver jewelry, mobile phones, and a motorcycle purchased with the stolen funds.
The police reported that the gang has connections to Sitamarhi and Nepal. They are believed to have executed five robberies in the Sikrahna subdivision over the past four to five months.
The investigation began after a robbery occurred on the night of August 30 at the home of Manoj Kumar Sharma in Mathia Mohan village, located in the Dhaka police station area. Following the incident, a formal complaint was filed, and the investigation commenced.
During their inquiries, police identified the suspects as residents of various localities in Sitamarhi, including Bela, Parihar, Bathnaha, and Mehsoul, with some having ties to Nepal. Under the direction of the Superintendent of Police, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was formed. Information surfaced that Mohammad Safiq Mansoori, also known as Bantha, had recently been released from jail and played a role in the robberies.
Upon interrogation, Mansoori confessed to his involvement in the five robberies in Sikrahna and provided details about his accomplices.
According to SDPO Abhishek Kumar, the gang was responsible for robberies in several areas, including Deepahi and Pratappur in the Chiraiya police station region, Goragawan and Basantpur in Kundwa Chainpur, and Mathia Mohan in Dhaka. Based on their leads, police recovered not only the stolen cash and jewelry but also the pistol used in the crimes and an iron rod used for breaking in.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Mohammad Safiq Mansoori, Mohammad Tanveer Sheikh, Shambhu Paswan, also known as Mogal, and Amarnath Thakur. Police noted that Mansoori is the gang’s leader, with ten criminal cases against him, including robbery, theft, and violations of the Arms Act and NDPS Act. Tanveer faces eleven charges in Sitamarhi and Darbhanga, while Shambhu has four cases against him. Amarnath has multiple criminal cases and was involved in the buying and selling of the stolen jewelry.
Further inquiries revealed that gang members utilized the proceeds from their robberies for land transactions, as well as the arms and drug trade. Police also recovered an R-15 motorcycle purchased with the stolen money. The SDPO highlighted that the gang operated with a well-organized strategy. They would take a train from Sitamarhi to Motihari in the early evening, hide in fields near their target locations, and execute the robberies between midnight and one AM before returning to Sitamarhi by train.
Authorities estimate that around ten criminals are part of this gang, with four already arrested and efforts ongoing to capture the remaining members.
