Ranchi, September 10 (Daily Kiran) : The path for the appointment of three new judges to the Jharkhand High Court has been cleared. The Supreme Court Collegium has officially approved the promotion of three senior judicial officers from the Jharkhand Superior Judicial Service to judges of the High Court.
With these new appointments, the total number of judges at the High Court will increase from 13 to 16. This significant decision was made during a meeting of the Collegium, chaired by Chief Justice Surya Kant, on September 10.
After discussions, the Collegium reached a consensus on the names of the three judicial officers recommended for the High Court. The officers include Manoj Prasad, the Principal District and Sessions Judge of Garhwa, Akhil Kumar, the Principal District and Sessions Judge of Sahibganj, and Ram Sharma, the Principal District and Sessions Judge of Daltonganj (Palamu).
The Collegium has confirmed its formal recommendation for their appointment as judges of the Jharkhand High Court. Following this approval, the appointment process will proceed through the Ministry of Law and Justice and the President’s office.
Once the warrants are issued and the notification of the President’s approval is released, the three judicial officers will take an oath of office and confidentiality as judges of the Jharkhand High Court.
It is noteworthy that the High Court has a total of 25 sanctioned judge positions. Currently, only 13 judges, including Chief Justice M.S. Sonak, are in place, leading to an increased burden of cases in the courts. The addition of these three judges will reduce the number of vacancies from 12 to 9.
