Lucknow, September 9 (Daily Kiran) : The Uttar Pradesh government has made a significant decision to bolster its healthcare system. Deputy Chief Minister and Health Minister Brajesh Pathak announced that the retirement age for doctors in the medical and health department has been increased to 70 years. This move is intended to leverage the extensive experience of senior doctors for the benefit of the public.
During a media briefing, Pathak explained, “Doctors working in Uttar Pradesh’s medical and health department can now serve until they are 70 years old. This means they can continue their services in government hospitals until that age.”
He emphasized that the decision was made in the interest of the public, allowing patients to benefit from the expertise of senior and specialist doctors. “I congratulate all doctors and the people of Uttar Pradesh who will benefit from this decision,” he added.
Previously, government doctors in the state were required to retire at 65. However, with a growing number of patients in government hospitals, community health centers, and primary health centers, this decision is expected to provide much-needed relief.
The health department believes that senior doctors possess decades of clinical experience, which is crucial for treating serious and complex illnesses. By extending the retirement age from 65 to 70, the state can retain these experienced professionals for an additional five years, thereby improving the quality of healthcare services.
Following the Deputy Chief Minister’s directive, the health department has initiated the process of formally issuing the order, with an official government notification expected soon.
