New Delhi, April 7: New facts have emerged in the investigation of the security breach at the Delhi Assembly. The arrested individual, Sarabjit Singh, is reported to be mentally disturbed, allegedly distressed over his missing nephew. It is claimed that he acted out to attract the attention of the Delhi police, but authorities remain skeptical and are conducting a thorough investigation.
On Monday, Sarabjit drove his vehicle through the VVIP gate into the Delhi Assembly complex. He placed a bouquet near the Speaker’s car and exited without any obstruction. This incident raised serious questions about the security protocols in place, prompting an increase in security measures outside the Assembly.
Reports indicate that Sarabjit aimed to gain the attention of the police regarding his missing nephew, who has been unaccounted for since April 1, with a report filed at the Hari Nagar police station. He believed that a senior official in the Assembly would listen to his case.
Sarabjit’s family describes him as mentally disturbed. His wife provided a medical prescription from Shahjahanpur indicating he is undergoing treatment, which the police are currently verifying. However, authorities are not convinced by this narrative. Sarabjit is described as a robust individual with financial means, having recently acquired a new Tata Sierra vehicle in February. Although no weapons were found in his possession or vehicle, he used his car as a potential weapon, posing a risk to others.
The police stated that Sarabjit entered the Assembly alone. Unfamiliar with Delhi’s roads, he paid two taxi drivers ₹2000 to guide him. Both drivers are currently in custody for questioning. Sarabjit had planned to visit Parliament after the Assembly.
Authorities noted that his behavior was highly aggressive. On Monday night, while in police custody, he shook the bars of his cell, shouted, and created a disturbance. Sarabjit is set to be presented in the Tis Hazari Court, facing charges of attempted murder. The investigation is ongoing, with all aspects being examined, including retrieving call detail records to uncover the full extent of the incident.
In response to this breach, security outside the Assembly has been tightened. Barriers have been installed at the main gate, police vans are deployed, and all vehicles entering and exiting are being thoroughly checked to prevent a recurrence of such incidents.
