New Delhi, April 1: JD(U) MP Devesh Chandra Thakur addressed several key issues regarding Naxalism, law and order in Bihar, and Nitish Kumar’s resignation. He responded to Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s statement claiming that Naxalism is nearly eradicated in the country.
Thakur stated that areas previously affected by Naxalism have seen significant improvements, with the situation now largely under control.
He also commented on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s letter to the Election Commission, where she alleged that numerous officer transfers during the elections could disrupt the electoral process, accusing the BJP of trying to manipulate the elections.
Thakur remarked, “The government in West Bengal is led by Mamata Banerjee. If state officials have been transferred, it must have been done by the state government. Therefore, claiming that the electoral process is being affected is perplexing.”
Regarding allegations from the opposition about Bihar’s law and order, he asserted that the situation is completely under control. “Today, if someone wants to travel 200 kilometers from Patna in the evening, they can do so with their family without fear. This is a sign of improved law and order in Bihar,” he stated.
He acknowledged that minor incidents occur in every state and city, and it is impossible to prevent them entirely. Not every individual can have security forces assigned to them, nor can every criminal be stopped in advance. However, he emphasized that claiming law and order in Bihar is entirely broken is incorrect.
Thakur noted that during Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s tenure, there has never been a situation where law and order has completely deteriorated. He addressed the speculation surrounding Kumar’s resignation from the MLC position, stating that he has worked alongside Kumar for nearly 20 years, and his tenure has been remarkable.
He added that Nitish Kumar has lifted Bihar from backwardness and set it on the path of development. Under his leadership, the state has witnessed clean governance and better systems. There are no stains of corruption, casteism, or regionalism on his record, and he has worked for all sections of society.
Thakur warned that if Nitish Kumar steps away from Bihar politics, it would be a significant loss for the state. The people of Bihar will surely miss him. “We have been living in a period of peace and tranquility for the past 20 years, and he deserves the credit for that,” he concluded.
He expressed confidence that the government will continue to function under Nitish Kumar’s guidance, ensuring ongoing development in the state.
