
Lucknow, July 1: On the occasion of National Doctors’ Day, a health awareness program and a ceremony honoring doctors were held in Sarojini Nagar, the capital of Uttar Pradesh. Finance Minister Suresh Khanna attended as the chief guest. He emphasized the invaluable role of doctors in society, stating that medicine is not just a profession but the greatest means of human service.
In his address, Finance Minister Suresh Khanna remarked, “The duty of doctors is to save lives, which is why society regards them as divine beings. This seminar organized by MLA Dr. Rajeshwar Singh will prove beneficial for improving the health sector. Such events bring forth expert opinions and suggestions, which the government is committed to implementing seriously.”
He added, “Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, health facilities in Uttar Pradesh have expanded rapidly. Numerous new medical colleges have been established in the state, and there has been a significant increase in undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) seats in medical education. The health sector budget has been continuously increased to ensure that no citizen is deprived of essential medical services.”
Suresh Khanna stated that the government’s goal is to provide quality health services to every individual in the state. He praised the dedication of doctors, noting that when a patient’s life is saved, the doctor becomes a divine figure for them. He also extended his best wishes to all doctors on Doctors’ Day.
Meanwhile, MLA Dr. Rajeshwar Singh highlighted the achievements of medical science, stating, “Thanks to medical science, the world has conquered serious diseases like polio and smallpox. At the time of independence, the average life expectancy in the country was about 35 years, which has now increased to nearly 70 years. This significant improvement is largely due to the contributions of doctors and medical science.”
He recalled the role of doctors during the COVID-19 pandemic, saying, “Many doctors served people without regard for their own lives, and several even sacrificed their lives. The honor given to these medical warriors is never enough.”
Dr. Rajeshwar Singh also set a vision for Sarojini Nagar to become the ‘Health Capital’ of Uttar Pradesh and for Lucknow to be recognized as the ‘Health Capital’ of the country. He stated, “To promote medical tourism, we will focus on developing modern hospitals, effective biomedical waste management, utilizing solar energy, and rainwater harvesting. The future health infrastructure should be modern, sustainable, and centered on public welfare.”
