Two Arrested in Shocking Rape and Murder Case of Minor in Uttar Pradesh

Lucknow, July 1: The Sant Kabir Nagar police in Uttar Pradesh have arrested two suspects in a shocking case involving the rape and murder of a minor. This operation was part of their crackdown initiative in the Belhar Kala area. During the arrest, both suspects were injured by gunfire as they attempted to flee.

According to police reports, the body of a 16-year-old girl was discovered hanging from a tree near a cemetery on June 28 under suspicious circumstances. Following this, a murder case was registered, and an investigation commenced. The police apprehended Mohammad Sharif, also known as Baghedu, and Mohammad Amir, also referred to as Nirahu or Pille.

During interrogation, both suspects confessed to raping and murdering the girl. When police took them to recover the victim’s mobile phone, the suspects tried to escape, prompting police to fire in self-defense, injuring their legs. Both were subsequently hospitalized for treatment.

Authorities indicated that charges related to rape, the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, and the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (SC/ST) Act are being added to the case. Superintendent of Police Sandeep Kumar Meena announced a cash reward of 25,000 for the joint team of Belhar police and the Special Operations Group (SOG) for their successful operation.

The incident occurred on the night of June 27-28, leading to the discovery of the girl’s body hanging in the cemetery. Upon receiving the report, police arrived at the scene and sent the body for post-mortem examination. The post-mortem report indicated that the cause of death was strangulation. Following this, the police registered a case based on statements from the victim’s family.

Investigations, aided by forensic and electronic evidence, as well as witness statements, led to the identification of the two suspects. Both are residents of Belhar Kala. During questioning, they admitted to luring the girl and committing the crime. They then attempted to conceal the evidence by hanging her, hoping to make it appear as a suicide.

The police confirmed that, as the victim was a minor and belonged to a Scheduled Caste, all relevant legal actions are being pursued against the accused.
