Mumbai, September 8 (Daily Kiran) : In a troubling incident in Mumbai, businessman Imtiaz Khatri received threats from a number linked to Pakistan. The Mumbai Crime Branch has arrested a suspect in connection with this case. The 45-year-old Mohammad Sharif was apprehended in Satara, Maharashtra. Originally from the Poonch area of Jammu and Kashmir, Sharif has been living in Mumbai since 2008, working as a security guard.
According to police reports, Khatri was threatened via WhatsApp calls and voice notes from the Pakistani number. During the investigation, the Crime Branch uncovered evidence suggesting that Sharif had been in contact with an individual based in Pakistan. This led to his detention for questioning.
Authorities examined Sharif’s mobile phone and claim to have found conversations and contacts related to the person in Pakistan. Based on this evidence, Sharif was formally arrested.
The police are now probing the nature of Sharif’s relationship with the individual in Pakistan and whether it is connected to the threats against Khatri. Investigators are also trying to uncover who may be behind the threats and the extent of Pakistan’s involvement in the matter.
Further investigation revealed that Sharif’s father resides in Pakistan-administered Kashmir, prompting a deeper inquiry by law enforcement. The Crime Branch is scrutinizing Sharif’s contacts and the information on his phone, as well as the role of the individual he was communicating with in Pakistan.
Additionally, Sharif’s wife, Shabnam, and his nephew have been questioned. Shabnam informed police that her husband arrived in Mumbai in 2008 and has worked in various areas, including Andheri, Sakinaka, Jogeshwari, and Bandra, as a watchman. Currently, he resides in Satara, where he continues to work as a security guard while Shabnam also engages in domestic work.
Following his arrest, Mohammad Sharif was presented in court, which remanded him to the custody of the Mumbai Crime Branch until September 13. Authorities are now focused on gathering more information regarding the threats and Sharif’s connections in Pakistan.
