Bhopal, September 3 (Daily Kiran) : The Madhya Pradesh Police is intensifying its focus on the use of forensic and digital evidence in criminal investigations to enhance the quality of inquiries and make evidence more effective in courtrooms.
As part of this initiative, the Crime Investigation Department (CID) conducted a three-day training workshop at the police headquarters in Bhopal, which concluded on Thursday.
The training emphasized scientific investigation methods, evidence collection and preservation, crime scene documentation, and the legal requirements for presenting digital evidence in court.
Pankaj Srivastava, the Special Director General of CID, highlighted the need for investigators to strengthen their scientific and technical skills due to the evolving nature of crime. During the closing session of the training camp, he stated that as crime becomes increasingly complex, it is essential to enhance investigations based on scientific and technical foundations.
Srivastava urged investigators to make practical use of the modern tools provided by the department. He also led an interactive session on DNA and digital evidence collection, discussing how officials should manage investigations in the absence of experts.
The workshop included a focus on crime scene photography and videography, training officers on how to document evidence in its original state. Participants learned about standard procedures for recording physical evidence, including corpses, weapons, bloodstains, footprints, and other crucial elements.
Amitabh Tiwari, Deputy Superintendent of Police (CID), explained the technical and legal requirements for using photographic evidence in court. He emphasized the importance of documenting evidence systematically and without alteration to maintain its authenticity. Tiwari noted that preserving the chain of custody for photographs and videos is vital for establishing their credibility.
