Kolkata, September 4 (Daily Kiran) : The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of West Bengal has filed a chargesheet in the district court of West Midnapore regarding an illegal land grab worth millions in Salboni. The chargesheet names four individuals, including former Trinamool Congress (TMC) MLA Sujoy Hazra.
The 14-page document was presented in the court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate in Medinipur. Alongside Hazra, the chargesheet identifies Anitesh Pariya, Kailash Agarwal, and Sharafuddin Khan as co-accused. Notably, Agarwal and Khan are currently at large.
Political discussions have emerged in the state as the chargesheet does not mention Sumit Roy, the personal assistant to TMC General Secretary and Diamond Harbour MP Abhishek Banerjee, despite his name being prominent during the investigation.
Roy’s name first surfaced during the investigation into the Salboni case. Earlier this year, staff from the Salboni police station, in coordination with Kolkata police and the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), conducted a search at Banerjee’s residence while looking for Roy.
Sources indicate that the case is still under consideration by the Supreme Court. The CID has sought permission from the court to continue its investigation against Roy, arguing that questioning him in custody is essential. The Medinipur CJM Court has granted this request. State police sources suggest that the agency may later file a supplementary chargesheet that could include Roy’s name.
The chargesheet outlines nine sections of law, including allegations of forgery, misuse of government property, and fraud, which involve manipulation of various government documents, including those related to land and land revenue.
Sujoy Hazra is scheduled to appear in Medinipur Court on September 17.
