Chhatra, August 5: In a shocking incident in Jharkhand’s Chhatra district, a young man accused of rape was brutally beaten to death by a mob of villagers. The incident occurred in the Baragaon area of the Tandwa police station jurisdiction. The father of the accused was also assaulted while attempting to intervene.
Reports indicate that a minor girl from the village went outside her home on Monday evening. During this time, Mohammad Imroze allegedly abducted her and committed the crime. The girl returned home in a distressed state on Tuesday and informed her family about the incident.
As news spread, a large crowd of villagers gathered at the accused’s residence. Eyewitnesses claim that the mob dragged Imroze out of his house and attacked him with sticks and stones. His father was also beaten while trying to protect him.
Local residents reported that both Imroze and his father were tied to a pole for a short time and subjected to further violence. Upon receiving information about the situation, police arrived at the scene and, after considerable effort, managed to rescue the injured Imroze from the mob. He was taken to the Tandwa Community Health Center for initial treatment but was later referred to Hazaribagh Medical College and Hospital due to his critical condition. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries en route.
Following the incident, tension has escalated in Baragaon and surrounding areas. In response, a significant police presence has been deployed. Authorities have initiated an investigation into the entire incident.
Officials stated that they are working to identify individuals involved in the mob attack based on videos and other evidence. The police have assured that anyone taking the law into their own hands will face legal consequences, and a separate investigation into the rape allegations is also underway.
