New Delhi, September 12 (Daily Kiran) : Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping engaged in high-level discussions with a delegation on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit in New Delhi. The talks included India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval. Both leaders emphasized the need to strengthen bilateral relations. This meeting is significant as it marks Xi’s first visit to India in nearly seven years.
Modi welcomed Xi, expressing his happiness and gratitude for the positive statements made during the summit. He remarked, “We have another opportunity to discuss bilateral cooperation.”
The first day of the 18th BRICS Summit was historic, with member countries agreeing on a joint statement. President Xi highlighted China’s commitment to playing a key role in alleviating tensions in the Middle East.
According to Xinhua News Agency, Xi stated that China is ready to work with other BRICS members to promote peace and stability in the Middle East and Gulf regions. He acknowledged the significant suffering caused by the ongoing conflicts, which he noted are not in the interest of the international community.
Notably, this visit is Xi’s first to India since the Galwan clash, which adds to its importance.
In the joint statement, member countries condemned the recent Pulwama attack and stressed the need to curb terror financing. They stated that the group denounces any act of terrorism as criminal and unjust, regardless of the motivations behind it.
Referring to the Pulwama terrorist attack on April 22, 2025, which resulted in 26 deaths and many injuries, the statement reinforced their commitment to combatting all forms of terrorism, including cross-border movements and safe havens for terrorists.
The statement concluded by reiterating that terrorism should not be associated with any religion, nationality, civilization, or ethnic group. It called for accountability for all involved in terrorist activities and urged a zero-tolerance approach towards terrorism while rejecting double standards in combating it.
