Bussy-Saint-Georges, September 12 (Daily Kiran) : More than 50 diplomats representing 43 countries gathered on September 12 at the newly constructed BAPS Swaminarayan Hindu Temple in Bussy-Saint-Georges for a special event titled “Indo-French Cultural Open Day.” The ceremony was organized by India’s Permanent Delegation to UNESCO and included ambassadors and senior diplomatic representatives from Europe, Africa, Asia, Arab nations, the Americas, and the Caribbean, along with officials from UNESCO.
Guests were first invited to enjoy traditional Indian cuisine, setting the stage for an event that highlighted the temple’s foundational values of service, cultural understanding, and dialogue. Vishal Sharma, India’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to UNESCO, addressed the assembly, describing the temple as a remarkable fusion of Indian civilization, heritage, and craftsmanship realized through India-France collaboration. He emphasized the temple’s significance, stating, “This temple holds special importance for all of us associated with UNESCO, as culture and heritage are at its heart.”
Sharma noted that the temple represents a vibrant tradition of Indian cultural heritage flourishing outside India. He remarked, “This temple, ‘Made in India, Assembled in France,’ is being welcomed by the world.”
A special film showcased the extraordinary collaboration behind the temple’s construction, illustrating the unique blend of centuries-old Indian craftsmanship and architectural traditions with France’s engineering expertise. Jyoti Hosagrahar, Deputy Director of UNESCO’s World Heritage Centre, remarked that the temple embodies the living heritage and cultural dialogue that UNESCO strives to promote. She stated, “UNESCO places special importance on initiatives that celebrate cultural diversity, strengthen community ties, and promote intercultural dialogue and mutual understanding.”
