Mathura, September 12 (Daily Kiran) : A tragic incident unfolded in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh, on September 12, when a laborer lost his life while working on renovation at a local college. The family of the deceased staged a protest at the main gate of the college, demanding compensation and accountability.
According to police reports, workers were performing plaster work at the National Inter College in Govardhan around 11:30 AM. The project was being overseen by the Mathura-Vrindavan Development Authority (MVDA). Suddenly, a wall above the gate collapsed, injuring two workers. The injured were identified as Lal Singh from the town of Adig and Pankaj from Talafra village in Rajasthan. Due to the severity of his injuries, Pankaj was rushed to SN Medical College in Agra, where he later died.
Local resident Kailash expressed concern for Pankaj’s family, stating, “They have no home. He was the sole breadwinner, working as a daily wage laborer. His family lives in a hut by the roadside. The government should provide compensation and a job for them.”
Pankaj’s wife has demanded ₹20 lakh in compensation, along with a job and housing. She lamented, “I live on the street now, and with my husband gone, I have no support left.”
This incident echoes a recent tragedy in Mainpuri district, where 26-year-old Ashish Kumar died while working with other laborers. While applying putty on a wall, he accidentally touched a live electrical cable, resulting in a fatal electric shock. Following his death, Ashish’s family blocked the Devi Bypass Road, insisting on the arrest of the property owner before they would proceed with his funeral.
The community is calling for better safety measures and accountability to prevent such tragedies in the future.
