Aizawl, June 3: Mizoram police have made a significant drug bust, arresting a 51-year-old woman from Manipur with heroin valued at ₹1.17 crore. The arrest occurred on Wednesday in Saitual during a vehicle inspection.
Authorities reported that the special team of the Saitual District Executive Force (DEF) conducted a surprise check in Keifang. During this operation, they stopped a car traveling from Churachandpur, Manipur, to Aizawl.
Upon inspection, police discovered 50 soap cases concealed within the clothing of one of the passengers, containing heroin. The woman has been identified as Nengshi Haokip, a resident of Salbung in Churachandpur district. The total weight of the seized drugs is 587 grams, with an estimated market value of ₹1,17,40,000. Police have also confiscated the suspect’s mobile phone, and further investigations are ongoing.
In a related incident, Punjab police reported a similar crackdown on drug and illegal arms trafficking. The Amritsar Police Commissionerate achieved a major breakthrough by dismantling an interstate arms and drug smuggling module. Two suspects were arrested, with authorities seizing 2.225 kilograms of heroin, six sophisticated pistols, and 12 cartridges.
Given the quantity of heroin and weapons recovered, police believe this network is part of a larger gang supplying drugs and illegal arms in Punjab. Investigations are now focused on other members of this module and their interstate and cross-border connections.
