Reasi, June 3: In a significant operation against drug trafficking, Jammu and Kashmir police have achieved another major success in Reasi district. Under the ‘Drug-Free Jammu and Kashmir’ campaign, local authorities arrested an alleged drug trafficker and seized 7.5 grams of heroin from him.
According to police officials, a team from Katra police station was conducting a routine vehicle inspection at the Noman checkpoint late on June 2. During this operation, they stopped a motorcycle coming from Katra on suspicion and conducted a search. The motorcycle’s registration was found to be from Jammu and Kashmir.
During the search, the rider was found in possession of 7.5 grams of heroin. The accused has been identified as Shugal Singh, son of Shamser Singh, a resident of Meira Mandrian, Tehsil Akhnoor, District Jammu. Following the discovery of the narcotic substance, police swiftly took him into custody and confiscated the heroin.
An FIR has been registered at Katra police station under sections 8/21/22 of the NDPS Act, numbered 167/2026. Officials state that a thorough investigation is underway to determine the source of the seized heroin and its intended destination. Investigative agencies are also probing potential networks related to the supply and distribution of narcotics.
Reasi police reiterated their commitment to a ‘zero tolerance’ policy against drug trafficking and the drug trade in the district. They emphasized that efforts to protect youth from the harmful effects of drugs and to ensure community safety will be intensified.
The police have also appealed to the public to share any information related to drug trafficking or illegal activities with them. Authorities believe that public cooperation is crucial in effectively curbing drug trafficking networks.
