Rudraprayag, July 22: Heavy rainfall late Tuesday night in the Kedarnath Valley has impacted the ongoing pilgrimage. A landslide occurred about one kilometer beyond Gaurikund in the Chhaudi area, blocking the pedestrian route to Kedarnath.
Following the landslide, the administration prioritized safety by halting the movement of pilgrims on the affected path and relocating them to safer areas. Relief and cleanup operations are currently underway to restore the route as quickly as possible. The continuous rainfall caused large rocks and debris to slide down from the mountain, completely obstructing the pathway and affecting the flow of pilgrims.
Upon receiving reports of the incident, teams from the district administration, police, SDRF, and relevant departments rushed to the site. They have commenced the removal of debris and boulders using JCBs and other resources.
Officials have stated that the safety of the pilgrims is the top priority. In light of this, travelers have been stopped at Gaurikund and various checkpoints along the route to ensure their safety.
The situation is being monitored continuously by authorities, who are also keeping an eye on weather conditions. The pilgrimage will resume as soon as the route is declared safe.
