
Imphal, April 9: Following a devastating blast in Bishnupur district that resulted in the deaths of two children and injuries to their mother, Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh conducted a review of the state’s law and order situation on Wednesday.
A senior official from the Chief Minister’s office reported that the meeting involved a comprehensive assessment of the current law and order conditions and associated security concerns. The official stated that discussions focused on effective measures to address existing challenges and ensure the restoration and maintenance of peace, stability, and public safety in accordance with constitutional provisions.
The official further emphasized the government’s commitment to taking all necessary steps to protect the lives and interests of the people while maintaining law and order throughout Manipur.
The high-level meeting included Home Minister K. Govindas Singh, Chief Secretary Punit Kumar Goyal, Chief Security Advisor Kuldeep Singh, and Director General of Police Rajiv Singh, along with senior officials from the Army, Assam Rifles, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Border Security Force (BSF), Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), and Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB).
Tensions flared again in Imphal on Wednesday when protesters attempted to breach the residences of the Chief Minister and Home Minister. The demonstrators were demanding the immediate resignation of both ministers due to alleged security lapses that led to the tragic deaths of two minors in Bishnupur district.
Security forces faced significant challenges in controlling the situation, resorting to tear gas to disperse the crowd.
During the meeting, officials discussed the current issues faced by female vendors in the market. Participants shared their concerns and considered potential solutions to address the prevailing conditions.
The incident occurred around 1 AM on Tuesday when a powerful bomb exploded at a house in the village of Tronglaobi Awang Leikai in Bishnupur district. It is alleged that the bomb was thrown by suspected Kuki militants. The blast claimed the lives of a five-year-old boy and his five-month-old sister, while their mother sustained injuries.
