Washington, June 14: African-American singer and advocate for US-India relations, Mary Millben, has called on President Donald Trump to use his upcoming meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the G7 Summit next week to ‘repair’ US-India relations and regain the trust of the Indian people.
Ahead of the meeting scheduled for June 17, Millben emphasized that Trump should view this encounter as a significant opportunity to strengthen ties between the two nations. She stated, “The American president should apologize to PM Modi.”
Millben has consistently supported strong relations between Washington and New Delhi. Despite recent tensions, she noted that Modi’s decision to meet Trump is a crucial and gracious step. “Given the current state of US-India relations, PM Modi’s meeting is quite gracious,” she remarked.
She pointed out that this meeting is more essential for Trump than for Modi. “This is not a meeting that the Prime Minister needs; rather, it is more crucial for President Trump,” she added.
Discussing the need to reinforce the relationship, Millben urged Trump to leverage this opportunity to improve ties. “It would be beneficial for President Trump to use the G7 Summit as a chance to enhance US-India relations,” she stated.
Millben suggested that Trump should treat this meeting as a fresh start. “Utilize the G7 Summit as a strategic opportunity to truly ‘reset’ US-India relations,” she advised.
She also emphasized that Trump should fully capitalize on this meeting to regain the trust of the Indian people. “President Trump should make the most of this meeting so we can move forward and restore the trust of the Prime Minister and the Indian people,” she concluded.
This statement comes as Modi and Trump are expected to meet during the G7 Summit in Canada. The meeting is anticipated to attract significant attention in both countries, as discussions continue on trade, defense cooperation, technology, and regional security issues.
At the end of her remarks, Millben made a personal appeal to the President, saying, “I am praying for wisdom for the President at this time.”
In recent years, Mary Millben has become a prominent public figure in the US advocating for stronger US-India relations. She has frequently praised Modi’s leadership and participated in various India-related events in the US. She has also performed the Indian national anthem and has consistently supported close ties between the two nations.
