Mumbai, June 14: In Jharkhand, incidents of individuals climbing mobile and electricity towers continue unabated. On Sunday, a young man ascended a mobile tower in Kharoundhi Bazaar, Garhwa district, due to a personal relationship issue. After hours of negotiation, police and local authorities safely brought him down. This marks the 11th such incident in the state over the past 25 days.
Reports indicate that the young man was distressed over a romantic relationship with a local girl. On Sunday morning, he unexpectedly climbed the mobile tower located in the market area. His actions caused panic, quickly drawing a crowd of hundreds. Local police and administrative teams arrived at the scene upon receiving the alert.
Officials engaged in continuous dialogue with the young man, persuading him to descend. After prolonged efforts, he safely climbed down, bringing relief to the gathered crowd. The incident temporarily disrupted traffic and drew a large crowd in Kharoundhi Bazaar. Recently, there has been a notable increase in tower-climbing incidents across Jharkhand.
In previous weeks, a young man in Hazaribagh climbed an 85-foot mobile tower due to delays in land mutation. In Bokaro, another individual ascended a tower over a family land dispute, while in Ranchi and Dhanbad, both a young man and woman caused disturbances related to romantic issues. Last week in Giridih, a man climbed a 33,000 KV electricity tower while intoxicated.
Additionally, in Giridih, a young man recently climbed a 100-foot tower over his insistence on a second marriage. Similar incidents have also been reported in the Ranka area of Garhwa related to romantic disputes. The frequency of these occurrences has raised concerns among local authorities. Police officials state that most cases stem from personal disputes, romantic relationships, family stress, land issues, or emotional pressure, leading individuals to take such dangerous actions.
