New Delhi, June 14: UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has dealt a significant blow to Russia. Following his orders, the military intercepted a Russian ‘shadow fleet’ oil tanker attempting to pass through the English Channel. Starmer emphasized that those supporting the war in Ukraine will not be allowed to hide anywhere.
In a post on the social media platform X, Starmer stated, “Early this morning, I instructed our forces to stop an oil tanker from the ‘shadow fleet’ that was trying to navigate through the English Channel. This successful operation has dealt another blow to Russia and serves as a reminder to those promoting Putin’s war in Ukraine that we will not let them hide.”
He expressed gratitude to all involved, including the military and law enforcement officers who work tirelessly to keep the country safe 24/7.
The operation lasted six hours and involved Royal Marine Commandos and specially trained law enforcement officers from the National Crime Agency, with assistance from the RAF.
The Ministry of Defence confirmed that the vessel, named ‘Smurtos,’ has been detained off the southern coast of England. The operation was completed with the cooperation of France.
The UK government is targeting Russia’s oil revenue. Defence Secretary Dan Jarvis noted that Russia relies on its ‘shadow fleet’ to fund its war in Ukraine, and this action has struck a blow against Putin’s illegal conflict.
According to the Ministry of Defence, the UK has imposed sanctions on over 500 vessels, prohibiting their entry into UK ports.
