New Delhi, September 17 (Daily Kiran) : Nepal and India held extensive discussions on development cooperation, focusing on post-flood reconstruction, trade, investment, energy, and connectivity. The talks, which took place on Thursday, aimed to further strengthen the long-standing economic partnership between the two nations.
In a statement, the Ministry of Finance revealed that India’s Finance and Corporate Affairs Minister Nirmala Sitharaman met with Nepal’s Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagla in New Delhi. The ministers addressed the impact of the recent floods and prioritized reconstruction and rehabilitation efforts in Nepal.
Minister Sitharaman expressed her condolences regarding the loss of life and property caused by the floods and assured ongoing support from India for Nepal’s recovery and rebuilding initiatives. In response, Dr. Wagla thanked Minister Sitharaman for India’s assistance, which included relief materials and technical support for rescue and relief operations.
The discussions also highlighted initiatives to enhance connectivity, thereby strengthening bilateral economic relations and promoting trade, investment, and exchanges between the people of both countries. Both sides underscored the importance of reinforcing trade and economic partnerships.
Additionally, the meeting covered other sectors crucial for broadening and deepening the long-standing economic ties between India and Nepal. The Nepalese Embassy noted that Dr. Wagla’s visit to New Delhi is part of a three-day official tour at the invitation of the Indian government. This visit comes at a critical time as Nepal assesses the economic damage from recent natural disasters and formulates reconstruction plans.
These bilateral talks occur as both countries continue to collaborate across various fields of economic and development cooperation, with connectivity, energy, and trade remaining key pillars of their relationship.
