Major Land Scam Uncovered in Nashik: Developer Accused of Violating EWS/LIG Quota Rules

Nashik, March 9: A significant land scam has come to light in Nashik. A case of fraud has been registered against a developer at the Government Wada police station. This case was filed on March 9, 2026.

The complainant, Bipin Chandrakant Kajale, aged 55, resides at Sarthak Heights, Flat No. 12, Kale Nagar, Anandwali, Nashik. He alleges that the developer violated regulations set for the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and Low-Income Group (LIG) housing in the Nashik Municipal Corporation area.

According to the rules, any large development project covering more than 10 acres must reserve 20% of the total land for EWS and LIG housing. This is intended to provide affordable housing for the economically disadvantaged.

The complaint states that the accused developer circumvented this regulation by subdividing the land into smaller parcels. They failed to reserve the required 20% area under the all-inclusive housing scheme. As a result, there has been fraud involving the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA), the revenue department, the land records department, and the state government. The complaint also highlights irregularities in land across various survey numbers in several villages.

The police have registered the case under sections 335, 336(2), 336(3), 337, 338, 318(4), and 3(5) of the Indian Penal Code. The investigation has been entrusted to Suresh S. Avhad, a representative from the Government Wada police station. The police have commenced their inquiry, and further actions are underway.

This case raises concerns about adherence to EWS/LIG quota regulations in large projects in Nashik. Such violations diminish the chances of affordable housing for the underprivileged and undermine the objectives of government schemes. The police investigation is expected to reveal the full truth of the matter, and strict action against the guilty is anticipated.
