Guwahati, June 23: Just hours before the commencement of the Ambubachi Mela, senior railway officials conducted a thorough inspection of Kamakhya Railway Station. This event is one of the largest and most significant religious gatherings in Eastern India.
Kapinjol Kishore Sharma, Chief Public Relations Officer of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), reported that General Manager Chetan Kumar Srivastava assessed the preparations and passenger management systems for the Ambubachi Mela, which runs from June 22 to June 26.
The annual Ambubachi Mela will kick off on Monday night at the renowned Kamakhya Temple, located in the Nilachal Hills near Guwahati, and will continue until the morning of June 26.
Sharma noted that a large influx of devotees from various parts of the country is expected for this religious event. Consequently, the railway has implemented extensive operational and passenger convenience measures.
During the inspection, the General Manager reviewed various facilities and arrangements made for the convenience, safety, and security of pilgrims. This includes crowd management strategies, passenger amenities, sanitation, drinking water facilities, medical assistance, help desks, and security deployments.
Srivastava engaged with railway officials and staff stationed at the station, reviewing operational preparations to handle the anticipated heavy crowd during the festival.
He emphasized the importance of maintaining constant vigilance, ensuring effective crowd control, and providing prompt assistance to passengers.
The General Manager instructed relevant authorities to remain alert at all times, closely monitor passenger movements, coordinate effectively with security agencies and local authorities, and ensure smooth train operations throughout the festival period.
In anticipation of the large crowd, NFR is operating several special unreserved train services connecting Kamakhya with key locations in Assam and North Bengal.
Additionally, to accommodate the expected increase in passenger numbers during the Ambubachi Mela, the capacity of several regular passenger trains has been temporarily increased.
The General Manager also directed officials to focus on passenger safety, cleanliness, and uninterrupted service, ensuring that devotees arriving at and departing from Kamakhya Railway Station receive adequate information and guidance.
According to the CPR, Northeast Frontier Railway has made extensive arrangements to facilitate the movement of pilgrims during the Ambubachi Mela, committing to provide all travelers with a safe, comfortable, and hassle-free journey.
