Belonia, June 4: The South Tripura district police achieved a significant milestone in their ongoing campaign against drug trafficking by seizing 34 kilograms of cannabis. This operation took place near the India-Bangladesh border, specifically in the PR Bari police station area of the Belonia subdivision.
According to police reports, the operation was launched following reliable intelligence about drug concealment in the Rajnagar Muslim Para area, which is close to the border.
During the raid, police discovered two plastic bags in an isolated and abandoned location. Upon inspection, they found a total of 18 packets of cannabis. Sixteen packets weighed 2 kilograms each, while two additional packets weighed 1 kilogram each. The total weight of the seized cannabis amounted to 34 kilograms. Authorities noted that no one came forward to claim the seized drugs at the scene. Subsequently, all legal formalities were completed, and the cannabis was confiscated as abandoned property under Section 106 of the Indian Narcotic Safety Code (BNSC).
The South Tripura district police reiterated their commitment to combating drug trafficking and illegal trade. They emphasized a zero-tolerance policy towards drugs and trafficking in the district, promising strict action against such offenses.
Investigations are currently underway to determine who concealed the cannabis and whether it is linked to any interstate or international trafficking networks.
