New Delhi, August 29: The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment is actively promoting education, dignity, livelihood security, and socio-economic empowerment among Scheduled Castes. This is achieved through regular internal reviews, third-party evaluations, and social audits of various welfare schemes, an official reported on Friday.
The official stated that the ministry monitors the implementation of welfare programs aimed at enhancing educational development, socio-economic empowerment, and livelihood security for Scheduled Caste communities through national brainstorming camps, regional meetings, national conferences, and consultations with stakeholders.
From the fiscal year 2021-22 to 2025-26, significant funding has been allocated for key initiatives such as post-matric scholarships for Scheduled Caste (SC) students, national fellowships for SC students, and national scholarships for overseas studies.
Other initiatives include Top Class Education, free coaching, pre-matric scholarships, the Prime Minister’s Scheduled Caste Abhyudaya Yojana (PM-AJAY), residential education schemes for high school students in targeted areas, a venture capital fund for SCs, and skill development programs.
Scholarship assistance is primarily distributed through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) to facilitate quick and transparent transfers directly into eligible students’ bank accounts. This mechanism also supports precise targeting of beneficiaries and reduces delays in distribution.
The official statement highlighted that the ministry conducts monthly and quarterly reviews of expenditure targets to identify shortcomings in implementation and facilitate timely corrective measures.
Additionally, initiatives to raise awareness and outreach are conducted through advertisements in national and regional newspapers, social media campaigns, and regular follow-ups with states and union territories.
These efforts aim to increase awareness among eligible beneficiaries, improve proposal submissions, and ensure timely utilization of allocated funds.
The ministry’s official emphasized that through robust monitoring, digital fund management systems, direct benefit transfers, regular evaluations, and close coordination with implementation officials, the government is committed to ensuring that Scheduled Caste welfare programs effectively reach eligible beneficiaries.
The overarching goal of these initiatives is to promote education, dignity, livelihood security, and socio-economic empowerment among Scheduled Caste communities across the country.
