New Delhi, June 4: To tackle traffic issues and curb roadside congestion, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has initiated a significant campaign in collaboration with the Delhi Police. Starting Thursday, this awareness and enforcement initiative is focused around selected multi-level parking facilities in the capital. The aim is to encourage responsible parking habits among citizens, ensuring cleaner streets and smoother traffic flow.
The campaign seeks to educate drivers on the importance of utilizing designated parking spaces instead of leaving vehicles on roads, service lanes, sidewalks, carriageways, no-parking zones, and other public areas. Officials stated that the initiative aims to maximize the use of existing parking facilities while maintaining smooth traffic movement in busy commercial and residential areas.
Initially, the campaign will target six identified multi-level parking locations across Delhi: Spark Mall (Kamla Nagar), M-Block Market (Greater Kailash-I), Hauz Khas, Qutub Road, Nizamuddin Basti, and Parade Ground.
According to officials, these locations offer ample parking facilities. However, many individuals continue to park in nearby areas where it is prohibited, including roadside, market entrances, sidewalks, and other restricted zones. Such violations often disrupt pedestrians, emergency vehicles, and overall traffic flow.
Under this campaign, Delhi Traffic Police and MCD personnel will jointly manage parking arrangements and take action against violators. In addition to strict enforcement measures, officials will run awareness campaigns to inform commuters, residents, shopkeepers, and market unions about the benefits of using designated parking facilities.
Appealing for public cooperation, the MCD Commissioner urged citizens to make greater use of multi-level parking facilities. Proper utilization of these facilities will enhance traffic management, provide more convenience to the public, and promote civic discipline throughout the city.
Similarly, the Special Commissioner of Police appealed to drivers to avoid parking in restricted areas and utilize available parking facilities. He warned that strict legal action would be taken against vehicles found parked illegally near identified parking facilities.
According to the law, the Delhi Traffic Police can issue fines, clamp wheels, or tow away vehicles as necessary. Relevant agencies may implement additional measures to ensure strict compliance with the rules.
Officials emphasized that the goal of this initiative is not only to enforce rules but also to bring about lasting behavioral changes among road users. The Delhi Police has called on citizens, commuters, Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs), market associations, and shopkeepers to actively collaborate in making these areas safer, more accessible, and free from unnecessary congestion.
Drivers are also advised to plan their trips in advance and use designated parking facilities to avoid traffic jams. Authorities stated that proper utilization of available parking infrastructure would significantly improve road discipline, reduce congestion, and facilitate easier movement for pedestrians, shoppers, residents, and daily commuters.
This campaign will continue in the coming weeks, with strict action against those who repeatedly violate rules and park improperly around marked areas.
