Guwahati, August 29: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that during the first 100 days of the BJP-led government, Assam has destroyed drugs valued at approximately ₹300 crore. He emphasized the state’s aggressive campaign against drug trafficking.
The seized narcotics were incinerated at Assam’s first dedicated drug destruction facility in Nalbari district. The Chief Minister stated that this action reflects the government’s ongoing efforts to disrupt the drug supply chain and prevent seized substances from re-entering the market.
In a post on the social media platform ‘X’, Sarma wrote, “The clock is ticking; the action will not stop. 100 days, 100 percent action.”
He clarified that the government’s anti-drug campaign extends beyond seizures and arrests, focusing on dismantling the trafficking networks operating throughout the state.
Sarma reiterated the government’s commitment to taking strict action against drug dealers and trafficking syndicates, stating, “Seizures, arrests, and dismantling drug networks – we are sending a clear message: there is no place to hide.”
Under the theme ‘Safe Assam in 100 Days’, the enforcement campaign led to the destruction of drugs worth nearly ₹300 crore at the Nalbari facility.
The Chief Minister also mentioned several operations conducted against drugs across nine districts over a span of ten days. During these operations, drugs valued at an estimated ₹472.51 crore were seized, including around 30.7 kilograms of heroin and 5,499 kilograms of cannabis, among other banned substances.
Since Sarma took office in May 2021, the Assam government has intensified its campaign against drug trafficking. Enforcement agencies have been actively targeting drug suppliers, sellers, and trafficking networks.
The state government has consistently prioritized the fight against drugs, which includes seizures, arrests, and the destruction of confiscated goods, along with efforts to dismantle organized trafficking networks.
