Ahmedabad, June 4: In a significant operation, police in Gujarat’s Ahmedabad have detained over 300 suspects linked to illegal immigration. Joint Police Commissioner Sharad Singhal reported that the Ahmedabad police and Crime Branch conducted a large-scale search operation late at night in areas including Chandol, Gulab Nagar, and Khodiyar Nagar.
During this operation, more than 300 individuals were taken into custody, and interrogations are ongoing at the Crime Branch. Singhal noted that “Operation Delta Hunt” is being executed across Gujarat, with Ahmedabad being a focal point. Over 30 teams, including Cyber, Crime Branch, SOT, and 10 local units, collaborated in this effort.
The operation extended late into the night, targeting multiple neighborhoods simultaneously. Among those detained, there are men, women, and children. Notably, 166 individuals have been identified as Bangladeshi nationals residing illegally in Ahmedabad. The remaining suspects are still under investigation.
Singhal revealed that some of the 166 individuals had obtained fraudulent Indian Aadhaar cards. Authorities are probing how these counterfeit cards were acquired and are examining their transactions, employment, and livelihoods.
Additionally, police are investigating how these individuals illegally entered India from Bangladesh. Singhal mentioned that last year, under the direction of the Commissioner of Police, approximately 465 illegal Bangladeshi immigrants were deported, and a similar process is expected this year.
Currently, the Crime Branch is interrogating all detained individuals, and further legal action will be determined once the identification and investigation processes are complete.
