Nandurbar, June 4: Abu Azmi, a legislator from the Samajwadi Party, has sharply criticized government policies regarding illegal Bangladeshi immigrants, “love jihad,” farmer suicides, and communal polarization.
Speaking to the media in Nandurbar, Azmi made serious allegations against both the central and Maharashtra governments. On the issue of illegal immigration, he stated, “Birth certificates have been withheld. Today, thousands of children have not received their certificates. An SIT was formed, but the report has yet to be submitted. Not a single Bangladeshi has been found. If Bangladeshis are present in the country, how did they get in? The government is run by the BJP, which is also responsible for border security. This is all being done deliberately to repeatedly target minorities.”
Azmi further remarked, “‘Jihad’ is a very respected word that means struggle. Terms like ‘love jihad’ and ‘land jihad’ are nonsense. Hindu-Muslim marriages have occurred since ancient times. The Constitution states that after the age of 18, any person is free to marry whom they wish. I can guarantee that there is no Muslim organization in India that advocates for marrying Hindu girls. This issue is being deliberately targeted.”
He expressed concern over the plight of farmers, saying, “What guarantee does this government provide that farmer suicides in Maharashtra will stop? Every government comes and goes. Farmers are committing suicide under the burden of debts of 4,000, 15,000, or 20,000. A lot of sympathy is shown, but there is no improvement in the situation.”
The Samajwadi Party legislator accused the government of trying to polarize Muslims and spreading this narrative to villages. He stated, “They claim they will turn the entire country ‘green’ and assert that they will become the Chief Minister.”
