New Delhi, June 23: Indian Foreign Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar is currently on a visit to Mongolia. He toured the construction site of the Mongolia Refinery Project, accompanied by Mongolia’s Foreign Minister Battsetseg Batmunkh and Minister of Industry and Mining Gonchig Damdinyam. During the visit, he reviewed the progress of ongoing works.
On the social media platform X, Foreign Minister Jaishankar stated, “I visited the construction site of the Mongolia Refinery Project with Foreign Minister Battsetseg Batmunkh and Industry and Mining Minister Gonchig Damdinyam. This landmark India-Mongolia Friendship Project is making steady progress. I assessed the status of ongoing work with the various teams involved.”
He also mentioned, “I spoke with the Indian and Mongolian workforce at the project site. I thanked them for their dedication and commitment in completing such a large project under challenging conditions.”
After meeting with Mongolia’s Foreign Minister Battsetseg Batmunkh, Jaishankar addressed reporters, stating, “India and Mongolia are strategic partners. Our relationship is based on deep civilizational and spiritual ties, shared democratic values, aspirations for development, and strong people-to-people connections.”
Last year, India and Mongolia celebrated 70 years of diplomatic relations. The Foreign Minister noted that a key objective of his visit was to review the decisions and progress made during the discussions between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Mongolia’s President Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh during the latter’s visit to India last year.
Dr. Jaishankar emphasized, “We discussed every aspect of our bilateral cooperation, including development-related partnerships. The oil refinery project is of utmost importance.”
The oil refinery project is being developed in Altanshiree, Dornogovi province of Mongolia. The Indian government has provided a soft line of credit (LOC) of $1.7 billion for this initiative, marking it as the largest soft LOC initiative by the Indian government worldwide.
