Sudden Weather Shift in New Delhi: Dust Storms and Rain Prompt Red Alert

New Delhi, June 23: A sudden change in weather occurred in New Delhi and the NCR region on Tuesday afternoon. Intense dust storms and strong winds disrupted daily life, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue a red alert for the next three hours.

According to the IMD, adverse weather conditions may persist for at least three hours. Wind speeds in some areas could reach up to 100 kilometers per hour. The department also warned of thunderstorms, lightning, and light rain.

Around 2:30 PM, the weather department issued immediate warnings for Delhi, as well as several areas in Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan. Shortly after, strong winds began to sweep through the capital. A thick cloud of dust engulfed roads, open spaces, and residential areas, significantly reducing visibility. This weather change provided temporary relief from the intense heat experienced in recent days.

The weather department indicated that following the dust storm, thunderstorms accompanied by rain are likely. This situation has arisen due to a combination of humid winds and an unstable atmosphere. Rain is expected to settle the dust in the air and further lower temperatures.

The red alert is not limited to Delhi. Warnings for adverse weather have also been issued for districts in Haryana, including Sonipat, Rohtak, Kharkhoda, Bhiwani, and Charkhi Dadri. In Uttar Pradesh, areas like Bagpat, Khekra, Pilkhuwa, and Sikandarabad are also on alert. Additionally, weather impacts are anticipated in Rajasthan’s Alwar, Bhiwadi, Tijara, and Deeg.

The IMD forecasts that during the afternoon, strong winds in Delhi and NCR could reach speeds of 50 to 80 kilometers per hour. Dust storms, thunderstorms, and light to moderate rain are also expected.

Weather experts have suggested the possibility of moderate to heavy rain in several parts of Delhi-NCR. However, improvements in weather conditions and a return to dry conditions are anticipated by evening.
