Medininagar, April 3: In a dramatic turn of events in Palamu district, Jharkhand, police engaged in a fierce gunfight with criminals on Friday, resulting in the capture of notorious criminal Faiz Khan. During the encounter, Faiz sustained a gunshot wound to his leg due to police firing in self-defense. He has since been arrested and admitted to a hospital for treatment.
The police also successfully apprehended one of Faiz’s accomplices at the scene. This operation was a direct response to the murder of Mohammad Sameer, also known as Guddu Khalifa, which occurred at Shatabdi Market on Thursday night.
Guddu Khalifa was a key witness in the murder case of a JMM leader, who was shot dead by Faiz Khan’s gang. Following the incident, Palamu police registered a named FIR against the suspects and formed a special team to track them down.
Acting on a tip-off, police learned that Faiz Khan was hiding in the hilly and forested areas bordering the Panki and Tarhasi police stations. When the special team initiated a search operation, the criminals opened fire on the police. In the ensuing exchange, Faiz Khan was shot in the leg and fell to the ground.
After the encounter, police cordoned off the area and arrested the injured Faiz Khan along with his accomplice. He was promptly taken to the hospital, where his condition is reported to be stable.
Authorities have also recovered weapons and cartridges from the scene. The Palamu Superintendent of Police confirmed the operation, emphasizing a zero-tolerance policy against criminals. The swift arrest of the main suspect within just 24 hours of the murder is seen as a significant achievement for the district police. Currently, police are conducting raids to locate other members of the gang.
