ED Raids Properties of AAP Rajya Sabha Member Ashok Mittal

New Delhi, April 15: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has launched significant operations targeting Ashok Mittal, a Rajya Sabha member from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), and his son. Raids were conducted simultaneously at 8 to 9 locations, including Gurugram, Punjab, and Jalandhar. This action is linked to allegations of financial irregularities involving funds.

According to sources, ED teams are investigating Mittal’s residence, farmhouse, and other properties. Additionally, agents have arrived at Lovely Professional University (LPU), where they are examining documents. Reports suggest that irregularities related to the university’s funds have been identified, prompting this investigation.

Ashok Mittal is not only a Rajya Sabha member from Punjab but also the founder and chancellor of LPU. This raid comes at a time when he has recently been entrusted with a significant role within the party.

On April 2, the AAP appointed Ashok Mittal as the new deputy leader in the Rajya Sabha, succeeding Raghav Chadha. The party officially communicated this change to the Rajya Sabha Secretariat.

In a prior conversation with a news agency, Mittal expressed gratitude to the party leadership for this new responsibility. He thanked Arvind Kejriwal, stating he would fulfill this role with utmost sincerity and dedication.

Mittal emphasized his goal of strengthening the party’s voice both inside and outside Parliament. He also mentioned prioritizing the interests of the nation, particularly Punjab, and assured that he would live up to the trust the party has placed in him.

In response to the ED’s actions, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann took to social media platform X to comment. He stated, “BJP has begun preparations for the Punjab elections… ED raids at AAP Rajya Sabha MP Ashok Mittal’s home and university… typical Modi style.” He further added, “We are not the leaves that fall from the branch. Tell the storms to know their place.”
